Men are known to have a greater tendency to raise their elbows than women. Why? This is what various researchers have asked themselves over the last few years, so far without being able to give a concrete answer.
The idea was that men got a greater reward from drinking than women. But how to scientifically prove it? Some researchers from the universities of Pittsburgh and Oslo therefore thought of carrying out a social experiment.
360 men and 360 women were involved, one group was given a vodka-based cocktail, others a similar drink, flavored with vodka but actually non-alcoholic, and still others non-alcoholic drinks. Interactions were then recorded, mainly monitoring smiles.
The result was that the men who were given alcohol were having more fun than the women, showing more smiles. These smiles, on the other hand, were less contagious among sober people, whether they knew they were or not.
