An English artist uses the mantle of horses as a canvas for her strange works of art
There are artists for whom the canvas is not enough, constantly looking for new forms of expression to be able to show their art. Melody Cannon, English, is one of them. Her canvases, in fact, are horse coats, on which she produces her own drawings.
The fur of the animals is cut giving particular shapes that, initially, were very simple: stars, hearts, etc. Gradually, however, these designs became more and more complex, with requests from numerous horse owners to have their own decorated.
As you can imagine, there was no shortage of negative criticisms from those who argued that a horse should not be used in this way. In fact, it would appear that such cuts on the coat are beneficial for horses, helping them to stay healthier.
Indeed, what Melody does is simply cut the hair of the horses, without any form of coercion or violence. The works are made in several sessions, so as not to stress the animals too much, which still seem to appreciate this strange care of their coat!
