The beak for birds is a fundamental part: to eat, to climb, to protect themselves and - in the case of parrots - also to talk. This parrot was really lucky to meet people who gave him a second chance: his broken beak was rebuilt with enormous success. It happened in Brazil, where a critically endangered parrot was found.
The parrot's beak was badly damaged and its life was in grave danger. The professionals of the Planura Animal Rehabilitation Center called "Renascer ACN" could not allow the parrot to continue to live in these conditions and have used all their skills and tools to reconstruct a beak that is incredibly similar to the original and perfectly functional
The center and veterinary Maria Ângela Panelli Marchió, specialized in animal orthopedics, worked to create a handmade plastic resin prosthesis modeled on the natural shape of the parrot's beak. The prosthesis is destined to last because it is created with polymethylmethacrylate, an extremely resistant substance.
The parrot, after the operation, has recovered and is demonstrating that it can live the normal life that was taken from it. And we can only imagine the happiness of professionals in seeing the effective results of their work!
