A margarita wouldn’t be a margarita without it.
Today, July 24, is National Tequila Day. Tequila is a distilled beverage made from the blue agave plant that can only be made in designated areas of Mexico.
It is one of the ingredients in a classic margarita. Shots of tequila also are popular.
According to delish.com, “to be classified as tequila, a bottle must be at least 51% blue agave (agave tequilana) – the higher the percentage of blue agave, the finer the bottle.”
And there are a lot of tequila lovers out there, including these six celebrities who have their own brands of the spirit.
The Chainsmokers, JAJA
Alex Pall and Drew Taggart, The Chainsmokers, are co-owners of JAJA tequila with Maurice and Elliot Tebele and Martin Hoffstein.
JAJA, according to its website, is made with “traditional processes and eco-friendly production.” According to a news release, JAJA’s three varieties, Blanco, Reposado and Añejo, “are produced using slow non-industrial methods at a heritage distillery led by a group of distillers who have over 50 years of experience in the industry.” JAJA is priced from $34.99 to $52.99.
Guy Fieri and Sammy Hagar, Santo Fino Blanco Tequila
According to the website, Santo Tequila Blanco “is made from only the finest 100 percent Blue Weber Agave from the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico.”
The tequila is described as smooth with “earthy, white pepper and citrus aromas.” The tequila is made with master distiller Juan Eduardo Nunez of El Viejito.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Teremana Tequila
According to the website, Teremana means “spirit of the earth.” The copper pots used to make the tequila were handcrafted by local artisans. The brand aims for not only a smooth tasting tequila but also for sustainability by composting the left over agave fibers to be used as fertilizer for the agave fields.
The tequila is “made in small batches, by hand.”
Nick Jonas, Villa One
The actor partnered with fashion designer John Varvatos to create the “ultra-premium, hand-crafted tequila,” according to villaonetequila.com. “These creatives from the worlds of music and fashion, respectively, came together over a love for tequila and for experiencing ‘life as it should be,’ with friends old and new, one glass at a time.”
Michael Jordan, Cincoro Tequila
According to Forbes in 2019, this tequila is one of the most expensive. “Cincoro is now among the most expensive tequila brands sold today. Its añejo retails for $130, a higher-priced alternative to Don Julio 1942 (at $120). And Jordan’s favorite in the new line, Cincoro’s Extra Añejo is in rare air—at $1,600 a bottle,” Forbes reported.
According to the website, “Cincoro Tequila by Michael Jordan is uniquely made with the highest quality 100% Blue Weber agave from both the highland and lowland regions of Jalisco, Mexico. The agave is hand-selected, slow-cooked, distilled and barrel-aged separately in underground cellars before being artfully blended into a single exceptional tequila. This is the heart of Cincoro: a naturally rich and delicious family of tequilas with an ultra-smooth long finish for a taste unlike any other.”
Chris Noth, Ambhar Tequila
Actor Chris Noth took over Ambhar tequila company in 2018. The Ambhar decanter, according to the website, “is distinctively made of heavy, virgin glass, molded into a shape reminiscent of the canteens that Old West cowboys used to carry their ‘Mexican brandy.’ An elegant horseshoe is integrated into the design to bestow luck upon all those who drink from the bottle.” The tequila is made in small batches using “centuries-old recipes.”
