the consumption of bactericidal and disinfectant products has had an exponential growth in recent years, as well as the use of vitamins and supplements that support strengthening the immune system.
The fact is that the rhythm of our lives exposes us to a greater risk, starting from the stress that weakens the body's defenses. Our grandparents fell ill, though not using multivitamins, for a number of reasons: one habit in particular has been lost over time, but a study has discovered how effective it is in fighting bacteria, while remaining a technique of all natural.
The researchers took dust samples from some Portland homes and then spread them into three small-scale houses. One of these was kept in the dark for the whole time of the study, another one was subjected to UV light regularly and the last one in the sunlight. After a period of 90 days - the average life span of the powder - the bacteria present in the dust of the different houses were examined.
It was found that 12% of the bacteria present in the "dark" house were vital, that is, able to grow: the percentage dropped to 6.8 in the house exposed to sunlight and to 6.1 in the house lit by UV rays. Ultraviolet light was already known to be an excellent disinfectant, but what surprised me was finding a strong similarity to sunlight.
Most window panes filter UV light, so sunlight is effective in eliminating bacteria even in the absence of the ultraviolet component.
In the past it was a daily habit to open the windows in the rooms or in any case let in sunlight by moving the curtains. Today, for the ways in which the life of each of us takes place, it is more difficult to find time to do it. But is it really convenient to use miraculous drugs and drinks to strengthen the immune system, when nature provides us with much simpler methods without side effects to make us live healthy? Not even sanitize the environments with bactericides and disinfected is a solution: these products also eliminate the good and harmless bacteria, weakening, paradoxically, the defenses of our body.
